Position Summary

This position involves working as a Drop In Program Leader for youth ages 6-17 years of age. During the winter months duties will included skate patrol shifts supervising participants attending public skates at the facility;

Plan, organize, set-up and deliver safe and enjoyable recreation drop-in program for youth ages 6-17 years of age in a drop in program environment;

On ice supervision of public skating (December – March);

Ensure the safety and enjoyment of participants through communications and enforcement of program and facility rules, addressing unsafe and unacceptable behavior, first aid requirement and completion of standard injury and incident report forms;

Maintain and monitor participant with regards to program, site and equipment - supervision and interaction with youth;

Deal with any behaviours and/or issues that may arise during the operation of the program;

Maintain the safety and wellbeing of all participants and co-workers;

Maintain equipment and play areas responding appropriately to any unsafe conditions. Includes setup, takedown and cleanup of program areas;

Be approachable, courteous and helpful to all members of the public and program participants, exhibiting outstanding public relations skill in all interactions;

Maintain all City Policies as outlined, administrative forms, incident registration, and attendance and behaviour logs;

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies

Must be enrolled in a full time post secondary course of study;

Two years leadership experience (work/volunteer) in co-ordination and delivery of recreation programming for youth ages 8-13;

Must be a proficient ice skater;

Experience with video game systems (Wii & PS3) an asset;

Leadership development experience;

Ability to be self motivated and work with minimal supervision;

An understanding of social justice issues and an understanding of poverty related issues and barriers;

Knowledge of the social resources available to individuals and families in the Kingston area.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Current First Aid / CPR Certificate required;

High 5 – Principals of Healthy Child Development Certificate an asset;

Must obtain and maintanin a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check will be completed by the successful candidates at their own expense;

Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
