We are currently recruiting Volunteer Firefighters for the following Stations and creating an Eligibility List:

Position Summary

As a Volunteer Firefighter you will be trained to respond to calls pertaining to but not limited to firefighting, rescue work, medical assist, hazardous materials, and activated alarms;

You will be responsible to learn how to maintain apparatus, equipment, station maintenance, and communications;

Promote fire safety through programs, displays and promotional material supplied by the Fire Department;

Must enjoy working with the public and be willing to dedicate the time required to successfully complete a recruit–training program and attend regular weekend, weekly and mandatory training sessions;

Respond frequently to emergencies in your assigned area.

Qualifications, Competencies

Grade 12 Diploma or acceptable equivalent in education (verification will be required);

Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and satisfactory driving record in order to obtain a "DZ" driver's license (will be required);

Any previous experience and/or training in firefighting, emergency medical response or a licensed trade are all considered an asset;

Experience in coaching, counseling or in public education is considered an asset;

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Knowledge of and the ability to work in the areas of electronics, electrical systems, mechanics, carpentry, safety practices and training in Occupational Health and Safety are all considered an asset;

Candidates must be physically fit to fulfill the role of this position and be a highly motivated team player;

Must meet prescribed hearing and vision requirements (20/30 in each eye without corrective lenses and color vision for Firefighting);

Ability to communicate clearly in English under stressful conditions;

Must be available on short notice, be able to work flexible hours and live or work within the immediate area of the Fire Stations that are being recruited for;

Successful candidates will be required to provide satisfactory medical assessments;

A satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Police Check) including the Vulnerable Sector Search will be required by the successful candidates at their own expense, and not have a criminal conviction for which a pardon has not been granted;

Must have the ability to work in all types of weather under less than ideal conditions.
