Work with business partners and senior leaders in the development, implementation and coordination of an internal and external communication strategy that supports the work of the City of Kingston including strategic business priorities and planning initiatives;
Manage the communication team, standards of practice, processes and performance metrics;
Leverage traditional and emerging communication methods to drive internal and external engagement, business and brand awareness;
Oversee website, social media, issues management, media and public relations and corporate and visual identity;
Support emergency communication, marketing and advertising initiatives;
Lead, coach and develop the Communication team, promote productive relationships and facilitate proactive and effective communication planning throughout the organization;
Other duties as assigned.
Post secondary Diploma or Degree in Communications, Business Administration, Journalism, Public Relations or related field;
Minimum seven years of experience in communications within a government, industrial or dynamic corporate environment;
Minimum three years experience leading, managing, coaching and mentoring a mid-size team;
Significant experience managing communications projects from strategy through planning, implementation and evaluation;
Extensive experience managing large and complex communications strategies and dealing with sensitive issues;
Membership in International Associations of Business Communicators (IABC) or Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) an asset;
Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.
