Position Summary

The Supervisor, Facilities is a member of the Facilities Management and Construction Services (FMCS) team responsible for the day to day supervision of a diverse workforce consisting of custodial service employees, building attendants, skilled trades and contracted services.

This position is accountable for providing leadership and guidance to the City’s internal custodians, building operator trades, and contracted services with a specialized focus in FMCS custodial services that also includes the oversight of security at various facilities including First Capital Place, City Hall. As a member of the FMCS leadership team this individual will also lead or support project management initiatives, and the coordination of service delivery standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and develop FMCS custodial services team to accomplish objectives and meet Cleaning Industry Management Standards (CIMS)

Design, prioritize and delegate assignments, activities and initiatives for the team in order to align with the tactical priorities and plans for the service areas, security, custodial services and supplementary contracted services

Provide supervision of the Building Operator Trades

Manage resources in accordance with corporate policies and environmental health and safety regulations

Ensure facility operations are maintained in a measurable way with a focus on health and safety, customer service, environmental and energy conservation, preventative maintenance, cost effectiveness and containment

Identify issues, develop programs and recommend solutions in order to optimize resource utilization

Develop and organize custodial preventative maintenance programs and safety inspection programs

Monitor expenditures, prepare cost estimates and participate in the preparation and administration of the facility maintenance annual and long-term capital and operating budget processes

Promote and support a culture of health, safety, well-being and respect and ensure compliance with related policies and legislation to sustain a healthy and sustainable work environment

Assist in the preparation of various contracts, requests for proposals, and reports

Lead or support the coordination of construction projects, remodels, and other special projects as well as coverage for leadership absences

Perform technical and complex tasks utilizing technologies and best practices

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Competencies

3 year advanced diploma in business administration, business management, environmental services management or related field Or a 3 year advanced diploma with the completion of red seal trade certification

3 years of recent and relevant supervisory and operational experience (preferably in a unionized environment)

Experience procuring contracted services and relevant supplies

Experience coordinating projects, managing, monitoring contractor performance as well as the ability to participate in the preparation of budgets

Joint Health and Safety Certification considered an asset

Additional certificates or qualifications for facility security, mechanical, electrical systems an asset

Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems CMMS an asset

Certification to the Cleaning Industry Management Standards (CIMS) by the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) an asset

Membership, Certification or Designation with International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) or Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) an asset

Required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector) at candidates’ expense

Valid class “G” driver’s licence
