Position Summary

As Human Resources Associate you will provide general Human Resources support to various Human Resource functions including providing excellent customer service, administrative support, and ensuring proper record keeping and filing systems;

Use technology to optimize efficiency, standardization and accuracy of Human Resource data;

Work in the Rewards (Compensation, Benefits and Recognition) Division, providing timely and accurate administrative and functional support;

Work with leaders to develop and update job descriptions and/or postings through a holistic approach that accurately represents the Department’s needs, while aligning with Corporate standards;

Draft Rewards procedures documentation;

Conduct research: prepare, submit and complete surveys; compile related data and provide analysis;

Support automation improvements (eg. PeopleSoft), and assist with communication initiatives;

Provide training and general support to salary administration and job evaluation policies and processes
(support CUPE JE Committee);

Respond to internal and external inquiries by researching appropriate information or directing to appropriate Human Resources and Organizational contact;

Assist with total rewards initiatives and planning;

Remain current in Human Resources field, specifically Compensation trends and best practices.

Qualifications, Competencies

Post Secondary diploma in Human Resources; education in a related field of study may be considered;

Two Years of related experience, ideally in a Human Resources department in a public sector setting;

Experience in compensation (job evaluation processes), benefits and recognition would be considered an asset;

Direct experience developing and updating job descriptions and/or postings is strongly preferred;

Knowledge of Human Resources concepts, legislation and processes;

Experience using HRMS systems such as PeopleSoft, and strong knowledge of Human Resource practices and principles gained through experience in a Human Resource setting is ideal;

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Strong communication, organizational and time management skills;

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), tested;

Knowledge of HRMS, payroll and e-recruitment systems is preferred;

Able to resolve conflicts and act with diplomacy and tact;

Ability to work effectively in a team and independently;

Demonstrate initiative and attention to detail;

General knowledge of Human Resources activities and working with collective agreements as well as policies and programs;

Strong understanding and commitment to confidentiality and privacy issues;

Sound knowledge of related acts and legislation such as the Human Rights Act, Municipal Act, Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Pension and Benefits Act;

May be required to occasionally work outside of regular working hours;

Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory CPIC (Criminal Record Check), at candidates own expense.
