Position Summary

The City of Kingston in collaboration with local post-secondary institutions hosted an International Student Symposium in March 2024. At the event we collected feedback for the development of a concrete action plan that will positively impact the experience of international students in Kingston, with milestones that can be revisited in the future. The Community Development Navigator will support the development of the action plan by synthesizing information, conducting research, and connecting with local stakeholders.

Duties include:

Support the delivery of various projects under the Workforce Development portfolio, specifically the development of an action and activity plan for the holistic integration of international students in Kingston.

Conduct research on community-based supports for international students both nationally and internationally and provide recommendations that can be implemented in Kingston

Identify and liaise with local stakeholders such as service providers, employers, and landlords using various channels of communication.

Assist in the organization and delivery of community and business engagement activities

Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital resources (website, app, and newsletter) that will track the completion of identified action items and provide resources and recommendations for international students.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies

MUST BE ENROLLED IN AND RETURNING TO FULL-TIME POST-SECONDARY STUDIES IN FALL OF 2024

Successful completion of 2 years of post-secondary study in social sciences, business administration, data analytics, communications, cultural studies, or equivalent is required.

Experience researching a variety of topics, analyzing data, and summarizing information is required.

Excellent writing skills and the ability to develop engaging, informative content for diverse audiences is required.

Must have the ability to communicate clearly with various stakeholders, collect information, and provide feedback.

Experience managing digital content is an asset.

Must demonstrate corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork

Skills, Abilities, Work Demands

Excellent research and analytical skills.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with various stakeholders in person and via email.

Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively on a complex project.

Basic understanding of issues currently facing international students in Canada and abroad would be considered an asset.

A satisfactory criminal record check is required at the successful candidate’s expense.
